International Friends Retreat

International Friends Retreat is designed to help international students attending college in Alabama make American friends and adjust to life in the United States.

The International Friends Retreat has been postponed this year, but you can still help!

Alabama WMU, in partnership with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions Office of Collegiate and Student Ministries, discovered a way to help with this State Board event.

How can we help?

Be one of the first touches of Jesus to an international college student! Fill a gift bag, write a personal note, and donate to your local or nearby Baptist Campus Ministry (BCM). This is in lieu of providing bags for the cancelled International Friends Retreat.

To Get Started:

  1. Contact your local or nearby BCM to determine how many Gift Bags will be helpful to their ministry. For a list of BCMs and leaders visit Click on school name, and then scroll to the bottom of the page to find the campus minister and their contact information.

  2. Purchase reusable grocery bags and fill with items listed below (Alabama WMU is not providing bags this year; however, we will next year when the retreat resumes.)

  3. Include a personal note. Keep in mind when writing these notes that the students will be touched that you cared enough to write a personal note of encouragement to them. This note will probably be kept and taken home with them when they return to their home country. Your words are important.

  4. Deliver completed bags on date agreed upon with the campus minister.

Please contact your campus minister on or before October 23, 2020.

Also keep in mind that there are many other ways you can be a blessing to our BCMs. So, be sure to ask while you are communicating with the campus minister.

Bibles for the bags will be provided by BCM.
